Multi functional Smart Bag Using Arduino

A Smart Bag

A bag is a common tool in the form of a non-rigid container. Bags have been fundamental for the development of human civilization, as they allow people to easily collect loose materials such as berries or food grains, and to transport more items than could readily be carried in the hands. In the modern world, bags are ubiquitous, with many people routinely carrying a wide variety of them in the form of cloth or leather briefcases, handbags, and backpacks, and with bags made from more disposable materials such as paper or plastic being used for shopping, and to carry home groceries.

Technology is the major boosting factor for smart luggage market. The major technology providers have joined hands with luggage manufacturers to offer innovative solutions, which enable the customers to enjoy the journey with maximum comfort such as luggage tracking, USB charging, digital scaling, and remote locking. The technology market is further segmented into connectivity, sensors, SIM cards, USB charging, and others. In 2016, connectivity technology had a major share of the market and is expected to reach $898.0 million by 2022, growing at a CAGR of 26.7% during the forecast period 2016–2022.

The functioning of the bag is quite a simple process. The rotation of wheel determines the amount of energy produced. The rating of the motor attached with wheel is 500 RPM so when the wheel rotates, mechanical energy is produced due to rotation, which is converted into electrical energy by the motor. Here the motor is serving the function of reverse motoring i.e. it is acting as generator. The electrical energy generated gets supplied to charging circuit. There is rectifier used here to block the reverse current process.

Through charging circuit the energy is passed to battery which is a storage device. The battery has a connection with the switch; the switch is given two terminal output i.e. it has LED and Arduino to operate with it. The LED is used for vanishing out the darkness and making the luggage visible. The Arduino platform runs program to serve the main function of the bag. It run on certain programming.

The Arduino based is linked to Bluetooth which determine or limit the area of bag separation from mobile. If the bag goes out of the limited areas of Bluetooth the buzzer start to operate. The shock circuit is connected to the relay board. The shock circuit in this project is wired on the handle, so as soon as the bag is out of determined area the shock circuit gets activated and gives a shock around 5mA to the person who handle bag or connect.

Addition to it the siren alarm starts to ring which aware the people around. The bag operation aim to provide best security to its user along with benefits of visibility, charging portability as alertness as well.

Sample view of Mobile App & Smart Bag

The model starts its operation with the rotation of wheels. The wheels rotate and supply energy to motors which are working on reverse motoring or can say is acting as a generator. The generator converts the mechanical input to electrical signal which is then fed to battery. The battery is rated as 12 V. In between there is a charging circuit which gives appropriate voltages for the battery to be charged. The battery is connected to the switch which is operated manually. One output of switch is given to the LED function and other is for Arduino operation. Now as the operation is controlled through a phone app. In case of lost bag the owner can start the app and press the trigger option which will make Arduino signal high and buzzer starts its operation also the shock circuit get activated and give a shock of around 100 V. The owner needs to keep the Bluetooth on so that bag is in constant information with the phone.

The main thing is Bluetooth connected to the mobile app, so the Bluetooth is to be maintained in on condition always, Bluetooth and other circuitry part like shocking circuit is been given power supply through the battery and battery is being charged through the revolving wheels of the bag at that time revolving motor acts as generator and give supply to recharge battery. For decorative purpose LED lights are being used, when in case of theft of the bag user or owner will click the button in the mobile app and the siren will blow in the bag and after sometime there will be high voltage shock will be given in the coil of handle.
